Giving Back to the Community: Winner Subaru's Thanksgiving Dinner Donation

At Winner Subaru, we believe in the importance of giving back to our community. That's why we recently hosted a Thanksgiving dinner donation event, aimed to support families in need. We couldn't have done it without the incredible support and contributions from our staff, as well as a few staff members from Clayton Elementary School. Together, we worked tirelessly to give away 100 free meals to deserving families. Each meal box included essentials like a delicious turkey, mouth-watering mashed potatoes, irresistible stuffing, and tangy cranberry sauce. It was our small way of ensuring that families in need could still enjoy a warm and satisfying Thanksgiving meal. We are immensely grateful to everyone who participated, whether by donating their time or resources. Your collective effort made this event possible, enabling us to positively impact the lives of numerous families in our community during this special holiday season. Thank you, once again, to all the selfless individuals who assisted in facilitating this meaningful initiative. Your support has made a lasting difference, and we at Winner Subaru are proud to have such caring and compassionate individuals as part of our community.

Wiiner Subaru Shares the Love with Georgetown Middle School in Georgetown, DE

The faculty, students, and families of Georgetown Middle School in Georgetown, DE extend their sincere appreciation to Winner Subaru and Sean Leary for their incredibly generous donation of supplies to replenish our concession stand. The earnings from the concession stand are channeled towards our PBiS fund, which recognizes students for their positive behavior and adherence to the R.I.D.E like Knight expectations (Respect, Integrity, Demonstrating Responsibility, Empathy). Our National Junior Honor Society is enthusiastic about volunteering and transforming the concession stand into a profitable fundraiser. Due to COVID, our concession stand has remained inactive, and we lacked the funds to procure the necessary supplies. Thanks to the donation, we can now offer this service to our students and their families during games and build up our PBiS fund to recognize our students for their hard work and dedication to academic success. Moreover, this provides us with an opportunity to interact more with our families and community and establish a relationship with them in a relaxed environment. We are incredibly grateful to Winner Subaru and our community for their kindness and support. Their generosity will not be forgotten, and we are fortunate to have such compassionate members in our community.

Winner Subaru supports Delaware's children and families in crisis

The Winner Subaru Team and their General Manager, Sean Larry, have once again raised needed funds with the generous support of Subaru customers through the Subaru Share the Love® Event for CHILD, Inc., a children and family services agency. In addition to providing social services in the community, CHILD, Inc. operates three emergency shelters - one shelter for youth in need of emergency housing due to abuse/neglect/dependency and two shelters for victims of domestic violence and their children. The Share the Love donation will help CHILD, Inc. provide nourishing meals to youth and families who come to our shelters for safety and support. The Share the Love donation will help children and families as they heal from child abuse and domestic violence. Thank you to the Winner Subaru team! We appreciate your on-going support.

Impacting their habitat

We can't do what we do without the dedicated support of local businesses and community minded managers like Sean who step up to the plate to sponsor our organization and make an impact in their habitat.

Adopt a class at North Dover Elementary School.

To Winner Subaru Thank you so much for your very generous donation. We are only given a limited amount of funds to last the entire year so we really have the budget for buying the basic pencils, paper, and other supplies. I spend thousands of dollars each year for my students and treat them like family. My students and I will truly appreciate the supplies for our classroom. I plan on using this for books, basic school supplies, storage, and games/incentives for my students. These students really need so many school supplies on a daily basis and unable to afford what they need. Many of them are unable to get the basic school supplies for back to school. This will make them feel prepared and a big part of our family classroom. I am so excited to see their faces when I show them what was given to us. This will definitely start off the school year on a positive note! I will ensure to have them send a thank you when the school year begins. This has been such a wonderful surprise to start off the school year. Thank you again for the donation! Thanks again, Heather Crowe North Dover Elementary School

Winner Adopted My Family

My name is Maxine King from Ellendale, DE and I was so lucky to have met the staff at Winner Subaru this Christmas season when they decided to bless my four great grandchildren with a Christmas to remember. I received a call from both Sean Larry the General Manager and Wendy Joines the General Sales Manager informing me that they were adopting my grandsons for Christmas this year. I went to Winner Subaru the day before Christmas Eve and when I arrived, Wendy greeted me at the door with her entire sales staff. She then informed me that the enormous amount of gifts in front of me was for my grandbabies, and it took everything for me to keep from falling down. The overwhelming amount of gifts that these wonderful people gave my family was more than I would have ever expected or dreamed of. These people blessed my boys with a Christmas morning that they will never forget. I have never felt more blessed in my life to meet such caring and giving people. They gave us so much more than gifts, they gave my boys and myself a reason to believe that there are still good people in this world and we were just lucky enough to find them. We cannot thank the staff at Winner Subaru for everything they did for us and we will forever be grateful. Thank you again Winner Subaru, we will never forget what you did for us. Sincerely, Maxine King

Special pups for a special Day

On October 8th we had our adoption even at Winner Subaru. We brought with us Leo and Gemini, two envigo Beagle puppies, Zara, an extremely energetic lab mix puppy, and Ace, a bully with severe allergies. Leo and Gemini are two of the 4,000 Beagles rescued from the Envigo research lab that was shut down. They were both born there, knowing nothing of human love and compassion, playtime, or even freedom from a cage. Despite the less than great start they were given, they were both typical happy puppies by the time we finished with them. It took us time to get them to trust humans and figure out that we are not all that bad and to show them how to play with other dogs in our play yards too. Luckily we have a great staff and volunteers who worked with them daily and bring the real puppy in them out. Zara was not aware of her size and could barely contain her energy and love around others, making her difficult to adopt out. Not many are ready to take on a larger puppy with tons of energy and few manners. Staff worked to get her better at walking on a leash and cut back on her jumping. Ace has severe allergies that require him to get expensive allergy shots every few weeks and eye drops. He has patchy fur due to his allergies. He is a cancer survivor as well. Ace also has a great big bully head and deep bark, making him see intimidating. He is actually a great boy who gives the best sloppy kisses and is just happy being by someone's side or outside in the sun. We hoped that bringing these dogs to the event would help show off their great personalities that can be hard to see when they are in the shelter kennels. We ended up going home with applications on all of them with Leo getting adopted that day. Gemini was adopted a few days later. Zara did not find her people that day but she did finally get adopted to the perfect home for her the following month. Ace is still hanging out with us waiting but he loves when he gets the opportunity to go to adoption events and meet new people and spend time away from the stressful shelter. We think adopters are scared away by his medicine needs and the potential costs associated with it. We don't mind Ace hanging out with us but we will keep trying to find him his people, but in the meantime he will always have a home at the shelter. We are so thankful that our animals had such a great day at the adoption event and that it ended with two very special beagles find their furrever homes.

Winner Subaru hosts a pet adoption event.

On October 8th, Winner Subaru partnered with First State Animal Center for it's annual pet adoption. The adoption event also hosted a pet costume party with prizes given for best costumes. Several applications were turned in for the event and a great turnout for the costume party. The party had activities for pets and owners as well as a DJ for music.

Your generosity has helped Women's Fest prove that there is no power great enough to stop us from celebrating and honoring women. We might have needed to take a pause to adjust to changes in the world, but we have shown that together we can overcome, and have fun. The 2022 Women's FEST brought a weekend full of education, comedy, dancing, sports and shopping. What more could a person want?! We had an attendance of approximately 1,000 women per day throughout the weekend and this was our best year ever. And we could not have done it without your incredible generosity and dedication. The Women's Fest committee is expanding to bring the community an even better Women's Fest in 2023. CAMP Rehoboth will engage in a strategic planning process over the next several months. CAMP Rehoboth is committed to engaging members of the community to help develop a roadmap for the future. Your voice will be important as we examine the needs for women’s programs and activities. Winner Subaru Builds Homes with Habitat

In April of 2022, Sean Larry, General Manager for Winner Subaru in Dover, Delaware helped to facilitate a massive $5k donation to Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity. This donation marks one of the largest corporate gifts ever received by a new donor. In addition to the monetary gift, the group at Winner Subaru also hosted CDHFH ReStore staff for a pack-a-truck day made possible by donating a portion of the proceeds from sales during the month of April. Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity is tasked to build affordable homes for Kent County's low-income population through partnership, education, and empowerment. In order to keep homes affordable, Habitat must sell the home based on the homebuyer's income and a zero percent interest rate for the lifetime of the loan. This requires a lot of fundraising and partnerships to cover the massive deficit incurred by each new home they build. As a non-profit, it is critical to create partnerships with community-minded businesses to fulfill this important mission. Winner Subaru, its ownership, management, and staff proved to be one of the most generous and accommodating groups of the year. Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity hopes to continue this partnership in 2023 with group builds and additional in-person fundraising. Thank you to Sean Larry and the entire Winner Subaru team for helping Habitat build communities, homes and hope. Affordable housing has never been more important as thousands of Americans are being displaced by rolling evictions, foreclosures and rent increases. For more information on CDHFH's programs, volunteering, ReStore, or events, please visit centraldelawarehabitat.org.

The Share the Love donations help CHILD, Inc. feed the clients who live in our shelters. With the price of groceries on the rise, the Share the Love donations have helped CHILD, Inc. over the years to provide nourishing meals to youth and families who come to our shelters for safety and support. The Share the Love donations have truly helped CHILD, Inc. in its mission to help children and families heal from child abuse and domestic violence. Thank you to the Winner Subaru team!

Noah's Birthday Parade.

On May 17th Winner Subaru participated in another very special birthday event. For most of us adults we understand the gravity of the recent global pandemic, however, for young children, they only know their world is different but they don't understand why. They've been stuck home, haven't seen their friends, they're sports teams, or close family. They've been banned from playgrounds and trips to the zoo or the movies, or theme parks. Little Noah turned 4 in March, just a few weeks after his sisters 1st birthday party. She got a big party filled with family and friends. Noah's party however, scheduled for the first weekend in April, was postponed. The world shut down just a week before, just after his family was getting him hype for his party. His party never came. He was patient, but kept asking to see family and friends that he sorely he missed. He asked his mom "When is my donut party" as he picked as his theme this year. Mom grew tired of responding "I don't know buddy". So with the recent small "drive by birthday parties", Noah's parents had heard about, they decided to reach out to the local Subaru community that they were a part of. From there the Subaru group reached out to further local car clubs, including: jeeps, truck, classics, tuners, motorcycles, american muscle, and emergency vehicles. They even reaching some local news outlets. Winner agreed to give Noah "his own" WRX for the day to take a ride in and sit next to in his grandparents front yard as the epic parade ensued. He was giddy when Sean, the gm of Winner Subaru, handed the keys to him to ride in "his car" off the lot. The event was a huge success with hundreds of much loved vehicles attending. And even though Noah had to return "his" car to Winner, he still talks about that awesome ride on Rt. 9 his Dad took him on in that WRX. Happy Birthday Noah the Subie kid!

Brett's 30th Subaru Birthday

The last week of January 2020, we were trying to find a way to make our sons 30th birthday as special as he is. Brett, our adult son with Down Syndrome, is obsessed with cars: specifically Subaru’s. Unfortunately, Brett will never be able to drive. Surrounding him with his favorite vehicle was our way of getting as close as possible to making his dreams come true. What started as a few people we know with Subaru’s took off over Facebook and by word of mouth. Imagine our surprise when the entire Winner Subaru team (including Wendell the Winner bear) showed up with their own vehicles to help us celebrate. And that’s not all, they brought gifts AND offered to take Brett for a spin in their cars! This was a very emotional experience for Brett, as he not only got to see his favorite cars, but got to go for a RIDE in them too. Now, months later, Brett still has not forgotten the kindness and love shown to him by the Subaru community. He still proudly displays his poster (which Wendell so graciously signed for him) AND sleeps with his very own stuffed Wendell bear. We are so honored to have been included in the love the Subaru family has to share. We cannot thank you enough!-The McDonald Family

Brett's Subaru Birthday Meet

On Feburary 16th, Winner Subaru attended a car meet organized but the local Subaru and car communities. The family of a great guy named Brett, with Down Syndrome, wanted to throw him a surprise 30th birthday he'd never forget with a Subaru meet where Brett could enjoy the fast cars and even take part in some ride alongs. Delaware Subaru club and several other local car groups caught wind and the turn out was better than expected. So much so that the location had to be changed to accommodate the amount of vehicles. Winner brought a Subaru Motorsports inspired WRX for Brett to take a ride in and brought some gifts including a Subaru Rally RC car, and Subaru Motorsports gear. We even had a surprise visit from our dealership mascot, Wendell the Winner Bear. All in all it was a great experience. Happy tears were shed and many appreciative hugs and handshakes were shared from Brett and his family. Happy Birthday, Brett!

Appreciation for Local Therapy Dogs

For the second year Sean and the Winner Subaru team went above and beyond in supporting the annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic for the Delmarva Region of National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc. held in November of this year. NCTD is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that provides animal therapy to people in health facilities, shelters, schools, and libraries, throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia, and Delaware, and have been recognized as one of the top animal-assisted therapy organizations in the country. The Delmarva Region of National Capital Therapy Dogs has 78 therapy animal handlers that visit 13 different facilities and festivals throughout the Delmarva Peninsula. We wanted to give our teams a chance to come together for fun, games, good food and to unwind. With 2,400 volunteer hours logged by 45 teams in 2018 throughout Delmarva – they deserve to relax! Once again Winner Subaru gave us plush Subaru squeaky cars – which are always an enormous hit – and a wide selection of Bark toys and pet supplies for our ‘Wag Bags’. For the prize table they included a collapsible toy bin that we filled with one of everything they donated. The generosity of the Winner Subaru team once again helped us give our therapy dog teams a well-deserved day of fun, and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts and fuzzy paws!

Book Donations to North Dover Elementary School.

For our second year we have partnered with North Dover Elementary, and donated books from the Subaru Loves To Learn Event. This year we got luck enough to be there as a class was in the Library and got to see the excited faces of the future. We want to say thank you to Principal Benson and Mrs. Louder for taking the time to accept the books.

Helping Children in Our Community

Giving back to the community is a foundational aspect of the Hynansky's approach to life. Michael and his wife believe that they owe it to the community to support various causes supportive of their overall mission. Their foundation, The Michael and Ericka Hynansky Family Foundation, limits its focus to supporting institutions that primarily or indirectly help children by increasing their access to healthcare, promoting a safe and positive environment for growth and for protecting them from abuse. In 2017, they donated $1,000,000 to Nemours Hospital For Children the benefit Cerebral Palsy research. Michael's cousin, Nicholas, died at the age of 14 from CP complications and he has committed to help where he can to further CP research and help children and families effected by CP. In 2019 Michael donated an additional $500,000 to further this cause and establish an endowment for the Nemours CP Chair, Michael Shrader, MD.

Winner Subaru shows their support to the Military.

On August 10th, Winner Subaru showed their support to the men and women who serve and have served our country. We were invited to show our support at the Miles For Military event, which was open to the public this year, at Dover International Speedway in Dover. We were honored to shake hands with veterans and active duty personnel while we handed out Subaru gear and hosted a raffle for other Subaru items. We also want to thank one of our own employees, Russel, who donates his free time teaching wounded soldiers how to fly fish. His booth supporting www.ProjectHealingWaters.org was located next to ours, and we are proud of the work he does within the organization. We at Winner Subaru want to say "thank you for your service" to all the men and women who have chosen to serve our nation.

Appreciation for Local Therapy Dogs

In early September I walked into Winner Subaru and spoke with Sean, the manager. I was chairing a committee that was planning an October volunteer appreciation picnic for the Delmarva Region of National Capital Therapy Dogs, Inc. and we were asking local businesses for donations for the Wag Bags we were assembling or for game/door prizes. With 2,600 volunteer hours logged by 45 teams in 2017 throughout Delmarva - not only do the handlers deserve some fun, but our fuzzy partners earned a chance to let their fur down! Sean enthusiastically agreed to contribute. I asked for something small like bone shaped keychains, or Subaru waste bag holders. Sean and the Winner Subaru team went above and beyond our expectations! Unbeknownst to me, October is Subaru Loves Pets month. Winner Subaru gave us 40 Subaru Loves Pets bandanas, 40 plush squeaky Subaru toy cars, and a prize basket with a beautiful ceramic Subaru Water bowl, toys and pet supplies!! Weeks after the picnic, and I am still receiving emails from members expressing their dog's joy over the contents of the Wag Bags and how much they love the plush cars! The Winner Subaru team helped us in giving our therapy dog teams, who give so much of themselves to the community, a day of fun and relaxation. I don't think that words can express our gratitude for their generosity, yet we thank them from the bottom of our hearts and fuzzy paws!

Winner Subaru Partners with LLS

Winner Subaru is a third-year participant in the Subaru Loves to Care initiative. During this time, the dealership partners with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to deliver patient care items to a local hospital. The dealership has a relationship with Bayhealth Hospital and was thrilled to be able to partner with the health center again this year. The delivery of patient care items took place in June and included 60 blankets, 20 craft kits, and about 20 care cards. The Sales Manager of the dealership and another employee were present for the delivery, as well as several hospital staff and LLS employees. The hospital staff was extremely grateful for all of the donated items and couldn't thank Subaru and LLS enough, stating that patients and their families absolutely love the comfort of a warm blanket, reading messages of hope from those in the community and enjoying some downtime with the kid's craft kit. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is thankful to have the opportunity to work with those at Winner Subaru as well as the hospital staff at Bayhealth. LLS looks forward to working with the great staff at Winner Subaru for years to come!
